SRINAGAR: In a significant development aimed at expanding educational opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir, Assistant Regional Director Dr. Mohd Abdullah of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar held a courtesy meeting with Mr. Naseer Ahmad Wani, Director of School Education Department, Kashmir, at his office in Srinagar.
The meeting focused on exploring avenues for academic collaboration between IGNOU and the School Education Department to promote open and distance learning (ODL), improve teacher capacity building, and increase access to higher education for educators in the region.
During the discussions, Dr. Abdullah briefed the Director on various academic programs offered by IGNOU, emphasizing those relevant to school teachers and education administrators. He highlighted the potential of using IGNOU’s certificate, diploma, and degree courses for in-service teacher training, skill enhancement, and continuous professional development.
The officials discussed strategies to disseminate information about IGNOU’s programs among school teachers, with the aim of enabling educators to pursue higher education and professional development without disrupting their ongoing duties. The Director of School Education expressed appreciation for the initiative and assured cooperation in sharing details of IGNOU’s academic offerings through appropriate channels to benefit teachers across the region.
Additionally, Dr. Abdullah presented the “Achievements 2024-25” magazine of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar to the Director, showcasing the university’s ongoing developments and initiatives.
He also informed the Director that all IGNOU programs adhere to the guidelines of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, offering flexible, multidisciplinary education aligned with current standards. Recognized by the UGC and AIU, IGNOU degrees are considered equivalent to regular university degrees and qualify graduates for both government and private sector employment globally.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen cooperation between IGNOU and the School Education Department to explore joint initiatives aimed at enhancing educational access and quality in Jammu and Kashmir. The Director of School Education assured to explore further collaborations and recognize IGNOU’s role in educational development in the region.
