New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard (NSG) in New Delhi through video conferencing. The event was attended by the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Director General of NSG, the Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces, and the Director Generals of Police of various states.
Addressing the program, Amit Shah highlighted the achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating, “In the last six years, significant work has been done to generate various types of data and collect it systematically.” He emphasized the importance of NIDMS, saying, “This system will prove to be extremely vital in investigating terrorist incidents and analyzing their various aspects. NIDMS will become the next-generation security shield against terrorism.”
Shah further explained the evolution of data management in the security sector, mentioning, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has generated various types of data, but until now, they existed in silos. Now, we are connecting these data sources with advanced AI-based software for analysis.” He added, “The launch of NIDMS will accelerate this process and mark an important milestone in making the country safer from terrorism.”
The Home Minister pointed out the system’s capabilities, stating, “With NIDMS, a comprehensive, integrated, and online data platform will be available to the NIA, ATS, state police, and all CAPFs. Data related to any explosion or IED incident can be included, enabling necessary guidance during investigations across states.” He noted that “NIDMS will be instrumental in understanding trends in explosions and formulating effective strategies.”
Shah highlighted the database’s scope, saying, “The NSG’s database contains data on all bomb explosions from 1999 till now. Through NIDMS, this data will be accessible to police forces and relevant agencies nationwide, helping analyze patterns, modus operandi, and explosives used.” He added, “This will significantly aid in establishing inter-linkages between incidents and understanding overall trends.”
He described NIDMS as “a secure national digital platform for accurate analysis of bomb explosion incidents,” emphasizing its role in “standardizing, integrating, and securely sharing IED data.” Shah pointed out that “it will serve as a single-click access window for investigation agencies, enabling immediate data access.” He concluded, “This platform will greatly benefit the country’s internal security system.”
The Home Minister further explained, “Through the ‘One Nation, One Data Repository’ concept, scattered data across departments will become a national asset. This will enhance the speed and quality of prosecutions and help in pattern recognition, enabling evidence-based investigations. Better coordination between agencies will follow.” He stressed, “This is an important effort to deliver the right information at the right time.”
Shah lauded the NSG’s role, saying, “The NSG is a strong pillar of our internal security. Thanks to the valor, skills, and dedication of its personnel, our citizens sleep peacefully.” He praised their achievements, stating, “Whether responding swiftly to attacks, anti-hijack operations, or bomb disposal, NSG has delivered outstanding results every time.”
He highlighted the NSG’s global stature, noting, “Established in 1984, the NSG is a world-class force that continuously analyzes terrorist incidents worldwide and remains fully prepared for any situation.” He mentioned their various responsibilities, including counter-terrorism, anti-hijack missions, and data sharing platforms, adding, “NSG officers and commandos have been honored many times—three Ashok Chakras, two Kirti Chakras, and numerous medals testify to their bravery.”
Shah also detailed the ongoing transformation of the NSG, saying, “Over four decades, the NSG has evolved to meet changing security challenges. Regional hubs will operate from Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and a new hub in Ayodhya, which will enable rapid response across the country.” He concluded, “Once these hubs are operational, NSG can reach any corner within 1-1.5 hours.”
He also praised the digital connectivity of police stations, stating, “Nearly 100% of police stations are connected to CCTNS, and systems like ICJS-2 are creating a ‘One Data–One Entry’ framework.” He added, “Data from courts, prisons, prosecutions, and forensics are now accessible at the click of a button, and NIDMS will be integrated into this system.” He emphasized that “AI will connect NIDMS with other data sources, creating a robust security grid across the country.”
