Srinagar: In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police have attached a double-storey residential house along with 12.5 marlas of land, valued at approximately ₹1.6 crore, belonging to a notorious drug peddler.
The attachment was executed by Police Station Nowgam in connection with FIR No. 128/2022 under Sections 8/22–29 of the NDPS Act. The operation followed the recovery of a large quantity of Codeine bottles from the accused, Liyaqat Ali Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Auqaf Chowk, Kenihama, Nowgam, a police spokesperson said in a statement issued here.
Investigation revealed that the property was acquired through proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking. Accordingly, it was attached under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with prior approval from the appropriate authority.
The proceedings were conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate First Class, BK Pora, along with independent witnesses, adhering to all legal formalities. The order restrains the owner from selling, leasing, transferring, or creating any third-party interest in the attached property.
