Eminent personalities, students, scholars gather at Tagore Hall to pay tribute to Afaqi’s lasting contributions to Kashmir’s cultural, literary heritage
SRINAGAR: Tagore Hall resonated on Monday with a heartfelt celebration of Afaqi Day, honoring the life, literary legacy, and spiritual contributions of renowned Kashmiri scholar and author Assadullah Afaqi. The event brought together eminent personalities, academics, writers, educationists, and enthusiastic students from Life School Kashmir.
Organized jointly by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Kashmir Markaz-e-Adab Wa Saqafat, in collaboration with the Life Foundation Charari Sharief, the program featured distinguished guests including Mr. M. Y. Taragami (MLA Kulgam), Mr. Syed Mubashir Bukhari KPS SSP JK Police, Dr. G. N. Itoo (Former Director-General), Mr. Nadeem Qadiri (Environmental Lawyer), Prof. Bashar Bashir, Mr. Amin Bhat (President, Markaz Kamran), Prof. Farooq Fayaz, Dr. G. N. Haleem, Dr. Mahfooza, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad (Managing Director, Al-Shifa Hospital), Mr. Lateef Masoodi (Neitherfield School, Sopore), along with representatives from eminent valley schools and the PSAJK central body.
Speakers reflected on Afaqi Sahab’s extensive body of work and his pivotal role in preserving Kashmir’s literary, cultural, and spiritual heritage. His notable publications—such as RopeWon, Monkhti-e-Maal, Hayat-e-Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA), Taleemat-e-Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA), Kulliyat-e-Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA), and Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam Aur 21st Sadi—were highlighted as enduring contributions that continue to inspire scholars and readers across generations.
Students of Life School Kashmir added vibrancy and warmth to the event through performances, recitations, and presentations centered around Afaqi Sahab’s philosophy and teachings.
In recognition of participation and efforts, mementos and certificates were presented to guests, students, and teachers. The ceremony concluded with a gracious vote of thanks by Baba Nazrul Islam, Chairman of Life School, who acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the organizing bodies, the presence of dignitaries, and the dedication of students and faculty in making Afaqi Day a memorable tribute.
The event ended on a collective note, emphasizing the importance of continuing Afaqi Sahab’s mission of nurturing learning, literature, and human values in Kashmir.
