SRINAGAR: The Division of Veterinary Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry Shuhama, under the auspices of ICAR-Indian Network for Fishery and Animal Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR), organized a comprehensive AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) dialogue and panel discussion on Monday at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Hall, SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar.
The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai and Dr. M. Ashraf Ganai, Director of SKIMS Soura. Both distinguished guests emphasized the critical importance of addressing AMR in today’s world and highlighted the need for collaboration among medical, veterinary, environmental, agricultural, and industrial sectors to effectively combat this growing menace.
A key highlight was the panel discussion themed “One Health, One Future: Combating AMR Together,” which featured an engaging talk by Dr. Neelam Taneja, Professor and Head of Medical Microbiology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Her presentation focused on current trends, global frameworks, and regional strategies for AMR mitigation, promoting the concept of cross-sectoral collaboration under the One Health approach.
Earlier, Prof. M. Altaf Bhat, Director of Education at SKUAST Kashmir, formally welcomed the guests, while Prof. M. I. Hussain, Head of the Division of Veterinary Microbiology & Immunology, expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers.
The event coincided with Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, which was celebrated through various activities including debates, essays, quizzes, painting and poster competitions, as well as outreach programs for farmers and students. A documentary on AMR was also screened during the inaugural session.
The program concluded with felicitations for students and organizers who contributed to the successful conduct of the event, reinforcing SKUAST Kashmir’s commitment to raising awareness and fostering collaboration to combat AMR.
