SRINAGAR: As part of the nationwide Swachhotsav campaign initiated under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar actively conducted the Shramdaan activity titled “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” on 25-09-2025. The objective of the drive was to promote awareness regarding cleanliness and hygiene and to encourage voluntary participation in public cleanliness drives.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation from IGNOU officials, staff and volunteers, all coming together with a shared commitment towards cleanliness and community service.
Participants undertook a one-hour cleanliness drive in and around the Nigeen Lake Srinagar, focusing on Cleaning of the public spaces, Removal of plastic waste and litter, Proper disposal of non-biodegradable items and creating awareness among locals on cleanliness and hygiene
The activity was conducted in line with the spirit of Jan Bhagidari, aiming to inspire behavioral change and a sense of civic responsibility among all stakeholders. The event concluded with a short reflection session where participants shared their experiences and pledged to continue supporting the Swachh Bharat mission.
In another event on 26th September 2025, as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign themed as Swachhotsav, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar successfully organized a Health Check-up Camp in collaboration with Department of Ayush Govt. of J & K, under the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir initiative at Karhama village, one of the remotest area of Tangmarg district Baramulla. The event was aimed to integrate health awareness with hygiene and cleanliness measures. A team of qualified AYUSH doctors and health professionals conducted free medical check‐ups and free medicines, consultations and AYUSH-based treatments to local residents, promoting holistic and preventive healthcare sets were also distributed particularly for common ailments to residents of Tangmarg and its nearby villages. Awareness about hygienic practices, sanitation, personal cleanliness, and environmental hygiene was also created. It was also encouraged for community participation in maintaining cleanliness as part of Swachhta Hi Seva across the district. This joint initiative was to undertake the event with the objective of reaching underserved populations, ensuring access to basic health services, and promoting AYUSH approaches alongside general health care.
Dr. Mohd Abdullah, Assistant Regional Director requested the general public to dispose off non-biodegradable and clean their surroundings. Dr. Abdullah also inaugurated a free medical checkup camp at Government AHWC Karhama Tangmarg District Baramulla along with Dr. Irfan and his team and provided consultancy, medicine to the patients. Dr. Irfan also focused on health awareness with hygiene and cleanliness measures.
The event witnessed active participation from local residents, IGNOU learners, and community leaders, who appreciated the initiative and the accessible healthcare support.
