Even in the quiet corners of Kashmir, the light of knowledge can shine brightly
This article explores the profound impact of Government Degree College (GDC) Dangiwacha, nestled in the picturesque Rafiabad, Baramulla. It highlights how this institution, though young, has become a pivotal centre for education, shaping futures and fostering holistic development for students from remote villages. I will be delving into its unique learning environment, the mentorship provided by its faculty, and its role in nurturing talent.
Without qualms, three years at college were the best years of my life. And I feel proud that every day at college taught us something new—to cherish in our lives to come. Though in its infancy, it has sparked hope for the students of Rafiabad, especially, and in the coming years, it may emerge as a candle that could enlighten the valley and the world as well. It was started to give students from remote villages of Rafiabad a chance to study and build a secure future.
The college campus is surrounded by natural beauty on the banks of Nallah Hamal. Tall trees, fresh air, and open green space make it a calm and comfortable place for learning purposes. Students from different areas throng here to study in a positive and peaceful environment. Established in 2019, two batches are already out, and ours, being the third batch, is due for its completion. For many of us, the college feels like a second home– a place our hearts reside.
At GDC Dangiwacha, education is not limited to books. Students actively participate in debates, cultural programs, awareness drives, poetry events, and community outreach. Students here are not only taught to excel in exams but to lead their lives with empathy, to serve with integrity, and to dream without limits.
At GDC Dangiwacha, the teachers are more than instructors; they are mentors. And I may argue that they are guides who know how to teach their students to navigate the ups and downs of their lives. They guide students not only through subjects but also through real-life experiences, whether it is academic doubts or personal growth. Faculty members support students with care, compassion, and dedication. The bond between teachers and students is built on trust and mutual respect, and both sides are cemented to stand still and strong. Our college is fortunate to have the patronage of Prof Imtiyaz Ahmad Parray, a captain who leads the caravan with great care and enthusiasm
Our college is a place where talents are exposed, nurtured, and given due care. It is a laboratory where raw potential is being shaped. In a short span of its inception, the students of this college have cleared university entrances and are now pursuing their Master’s degrees at Kashmir University. This demonstrates the college’s effectiveness in preparing students for higher education and successful careers.
GDC Dangiwacha is not just a building with classrooms. It is a place where lives are shaped and futures are made and secured. This college is giving hope to students, showing them that with education, anything is possible. It proves that even in the quiet corners of Kashmir, the light of knowledge can shine brightly if there is passion, hard work, and support
My three years in college, without any doubt, are the best part of my life and will be. It has channelised me like tens and hundreds of other students, and we will keep the spirit of never giving up, as has been impressed often by American poet Robert Frost:
The Woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep.
This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the journey of growth and determination fostered at GDC Dangiwacha, inspiring students to pursue their goals relentlessly. The college’s vision extends beyond its immediate surroundings, aiming to create a ripple effect of knowledge and positive change.
