How media bias and misrepresentation distort religious teachings and promote division instead of understanding
Every religion advocates love, peace, humanity, and mutual respect. Regardless of the faith, the core aim is to uplift an individual morally and spiritually. Acts of terrorism are usually driven by political motives or extremist ideologies, and such actions have no place in any religion. Linking terrorism with religion misrepresents its true essence and leads people astray. Islam, in particular, strongly denounces the taking of innocent lives. As clearly stated in the Holy Quran, “Whoever kills a person unjustly, it is as though he has killed all of mankind” (Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 32). This strongly affirms that terrorism contradicts the principles of Islam. It stems from personal greed, ignorance, and misguidance rather than religious teachings.
Islam strictly forbids harming innocent lives. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “A true Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands others are safe.” Islam gives utmost value to human life—irrespective of a person’s religion, race, language, or nationality. It calls for honouring the sanctity and dignity of every human being. Who are these terrorists? Where do they come from? Why is their conscience not alive? Why are they thirsty for blood? Why do they ruin a beautiful life? These terrorists are those people who shed each other’s blood to harm, threaten others, and for political gain. They have no religion. In fact, their work is against the teachings of religion.
Those who kill innocent people and take the name of their religion are not only enemies of humans, but also a cause of defamation of their religion. Connecting such people’s work to religion is completely wrong and unwise. Terrorism is often not rooted in religion, but rather in factors such as political agendas, lust for power, injustice, poverty, foreign interference, lack of education, and the spread of extremism. These combined elements drive individuals toward radicalisation and violence.
In today’s world, the media has a lot of influence on how people think and what they believe. When terrorism happens, the media reports it worldwide. But sometimes, this reporting is unfair. If a Muslim is involved, they are quickly called an “Islamic terrorist,” while people from other religions who do the same thing are called “extremists” or “mentally ill.” This double standard is wrong.
Such biased reports damage the reputation of Islam and increase hatred towards Muslims. The truth is, terrorism has no religion, and no religion supports killing innocent people. The media should be fair and treat everyone equally. Linking crimes to religion is not only unfair but also harms social peace.
If the media reports the truth responsibly, it can help spread peace, kindness, and fairness instead of hate and division.
Conclusion:
The reality is that no religion supports terrorism. Every religion teaches peace, love, and unity. Those who carry out terrorism in the name of religion are actually betraying their own faith because their aim is to spread fear and fulfil their own desires.
It is our duty to understand and share the true message of our religion, helping others to understand the difference between right and wrong. We must realise that terrorism has no link to any religion. It is a crime against humanity and does not belong to any faith.
We need to stop believing that every terrorist comes from a specific religion. If we all work together to change this wrong idea, real peace will be possible. We must respect each other’s religions, cultures, and beliefs and focus on helping humanity. This will create a world filled with love and peace.
