Police seize illicit timber in Handwara

SRINAGAR: In a significant operation aimed at curbing the illegal trade of forest resources, Police in Handwara successfully seized a substantial quantity of illicit timber, dealing a major blow to timber smugglers operating in the region.
“Acting on specific information, a police party from PS Handwara conducted raids at two locations in the Darashpora area of Handwara. During the operation, a total of 28 illegally felled timber logs were seized on the spot. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 80/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation is underway,” police said in a statement.
This action reflects the continued commitment of Jammu & Kashmir Police to protect the environment and preserve the ecological balance of the region and urges citizens to report any suspicious activities related to forest produce or environmental violations.
