IBC J&K holds webinar on energy efficient buildings for cold climates

SRINAGAR: The Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) J&K Chapter successfully hosted an online webinar focused on “Energy Efficient Buildings in Cold Climatic Conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.” Led by Er. Aamir Ali, Chairman of IBC J&K Chapter, the session attracted nearly 100 participants from across India.
Er. Bashir Ahmed Dar, Former Secretary Technical of the Power Development Department, delivered a comprehensive presentation on enhancing the energy efficiency of buildings. He addressed key concepts such as thermal conductivity, thermal resistivity of building materials, and the importance of building orientation to maximize solar energy during winter months. He also provided practical insights on passive house design, solar rooftop potential in J&K, and green building certification systems.
The webinar featured another prominent speaker, Er. Suhail Qadir, Head Systems Engineer at Qatar Energy and Managing Partner of JK Green Technology. He discussed mechanical heat recovery ventilation (HRV), indoor air quality (IAQ), and the health and comfort of occupants in net-zero passive buildings. His talk included how solar power can be harnessed through solar water heaters.
Participants included staff and students from SSM College of Engineering, various Government Polytechnics and ITIs, as well as engineers from the Public Works Department, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, and Indian Railways. Notable attendees were Er. Rabinder Shekher, Vice Chairman IBC; Ankur Nanda, Treasurer IBC; and international participants like Er. Taniyok Taga, Chief Engineer from Arunachal Pradesh, and Er. Umeed Javid Tara from Yukonhaus Innovations, Ontario, Canada.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers on various topics. Attendees expressed appreciation for the valuable insights presented. IBC J&K Chapter has announced another webinar scheduled for April 9, focusing on fire hazards and safety, continuing its commitment to enhancing knowledge in the construction sector.
