SRINAGAR: An Ex-Servicemen Rally was held in Srinagar to pay tribute to the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Army’s brave soldiers. Over 500 veterans, Veer Naris (war widows), and their dependents gathered in camaraderie to honor the fallen heroes. The event included a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shalateng War Memorial, where attendees recalled the heroic moments and victories of India’s recent wars with Pakistan.
The Battle of Shalateng, fought on November 7, 1947, during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1947-1948, was a pivotal moment in Indian military history. Indian Army soldiers, supported by local residents, successfully halted the advance of Pakistani raiders toward Srinagar, forcing them to retreat across the border. This victory remains a testament to the courage and determination of the Indian forces.
The rally provided a platform to unite veterans with current military personnel, government officials, dignitaries, and the public, who expressed their gratitude for the sacrifices made by the Indian Armed Forces. The event also highlighted the challenges faced by Ex-Servicemen (ESM) in transitioning to civilian life, including employment opportunities and avenues for continued contribution to nation-building.
Special interactive sessions were held to address the needs of ESMs and Veer Naris. As part of the event, five veterans were presented with specially modified scooters, provided in collaboration with the War Wounded Foundation.
The Chinar Corps reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of veterans and Veer Naris, whose legacy of bravery and sacrifice continues to inspire the nation.
