My freedom of movement at discretion of authorities: Mirwaiz

Must read

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that authorities placed him under house arrest, preventing him from attending Friday prayers and other religious and social events.
In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz expressed his disappointment and frustration at being barred from going to Jama Masjid to offer the sermon and obligatory Friday prayers. “This has been a routine that has been disrupted since my release from house detention last September,” he said. He alleged that his freedom of movement is at the discretion of the authorities, who inform him without reason that he cannot move out.
Mirwaiz also criticized the authorities for detaining him without any explanation or justification, saying this causes distress to him and those associated with his activities. He lamented that his detention has been extended till the end of the upcoming UT elections in Jammu and Kashmir, citing rumours that he will be kept under house arrest until then.
