Awareness prog on disaster mitigation, heat wave organized at KVK/ETC Malangpora

AWANTIPORA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra/Extension Training Centre (KVK-ETC) Malangpora, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Pulwama, organized a one-day awareness programme on “Disaster Mitigation and Heat Wave” at KVK-ETC Malangpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday. The event aimed to educate participants on disaster management preparedness and equipment handling.
The programme featured experts from various fields, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services (F&EMS), and medical professionals. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Javaid Ahmad Mugloo, Head of KVK/ETC Malangpora, who emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness. He highlighted past experiences to underscore the need for reducing disaster vulnerabilities and discussed the role of agricultural practices in mitigating various types of disasters. Dr. Mugloo expressed sincere gratitude to DDMA Pulwama for organizing such beneficial programmes.
Experts from F&EMS provided practical demonstrations on dealing with fire outbreaks, covering different methods of fire control and the handling of fire extinguishers. The SDRF team demonstrated techniques to reduce casualties in various types of disasters, showcasing special skills useful in case of accidental injuries and highlighting their potential to save lives.
Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, BMO Tral, delivered a detailed lecture on heat shock, focusing on its prevention and control. The programme was attended by a large gathering of students, staff, and employees from various departments.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Waseem Ali Dar, acknowledging the contributions of all participants and experts who made the programme a success.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Prof. Javaid Ahmad Mugloo said, “Today’s one-day training programme was organized for disaster management in collaboration with District Disaster Management Pulwama. We educated our entire staff and trainees about various daily disasters, whether they are climatic events, fire incidents, road accidents, or the current heatwave. In today’s programme, we provided comprehensive information on these topics. Experts from fire services, SDRF, and some health officials participated, delivering lectures and demonstrations on how to tackle different hazardous situations and protect oneself.”
Prof. Mugloo expressed his gratitude to the district administration for choosing KVK Malangpora campus for this awareness programme, which aimed to educate trainees, scientists, and staff on how to save themselves and others from different hazards and disasters. The programme was conducted to ensure everyone knows how to keep themselves safe in such situations.
