Cluster head Dr Rabia highlights importance of holistic student dev through academic, extracurricular activities

PAMPORE: Government Boys Middle School (BMS) Meej, Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district organized its annual Cross Country Run (CCR), drawing participation from various age groups of students.
The event, coordinated by Physical Education Teacher Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, witnessed the enthusiastic involvement of 75 students, including both boys and girls.
Dr Rabia Naseeb Cluster Head Girls Higher Secondary School Pampore was the chief guest, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Pampore Abdul Rasheed Teli, Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Pampore Masrat Hussain Andrabi, serving as the guests of honour. Teachers and parents were present on the occasion.
The chief guest emphasized the importance of leadership and initiative, encouraging the students to embrace these qualities in their lives. She highlighted the significance of such events in promoting fitness and sportsmanship among the youth.
The CCR, a longstanding tradition at BMS Meej, unfolded amidst favourable weather conditions, providing an ideal setting for the participants to showcase their athletic prowess. Coach Mohammad Ashraf Bhat motivated the competitors with words of encouragement, emphasizing the values of self-discipline, competitive spirit, and self-belief.
Students from grades 3rd to VIII exhibited exemplary determination and grit as they navigated through the cross-country course, each striving to outperform themselves. The event not only celebrated the winners across various age groups but also applauded the collective display of sportsmanship among all participants.
Acknowledging the crucial role of parents in facilitating their children’s participation, the school expressed gratitude for their support, underscoring the collaborative effort required to organize such adventurous expeditions.
The winners and runner-ups were honoured with trophies and consolation prizes, recognizing their outstanding performance and dedication. The event concluded on a high note, with the promise of continued commitment to fostering a culture of athleticism and excellence at BMS Meej.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Dr Rabia Naseeb, Cluster Head, emphasized the holistic development of students, stating that academic and extracurricular activities go hand in hand and contribute significantly to their overall growth. She highlighted the importance of activities beyond academics in enhancing students’ skills and nurturing their talents.
Dr Naseeb commended the efforts of their school in organizing the activity with great enthusiasm, which is commendable in itself. An educator’s goal is to ensure that students not only excel in academics but also find joy and fulfilment in various activities. She mentioned observing many students expressing happiness and satisfaction through their participation in these activities.
Dr Naseeb emphasized the collective responsibility of stakeholders, including teachers and parents, in nurturing students’ happiness and success. She stressed the importance of prioritizing both the well-being and achievements of students to ensure a prosperous society.
Mohammad Altaf Bhat, a physical education teacher, highlighted the importance of the cross-country run held today. He emphasized that such events help in educating children about the importance of health, road races, and engaging in physical activities. Bhat stated that these initiatives aim to raise awareness among children, society, and villages about the significance of staying healthy and active.
He expressed a desire to combat the rising issue of drug abuse by promoting sports and games as an alternative. Bhat emphasized the need to prepare children for a healthy lifestyle, ensuring they are physically, socially, and morally fit, which will also positively impact their education.
Bhat expressed gratitude to parents who welcomed the children early in the morning with sweets, chocolates, and flowers, showing appreciation for their support in encouraging the participation of their children in such activities.
