SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday expressed his disappointment over being repeatedly put under house arrest, even during the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing the congregation at Jama Masjid during Friday prayers, he lamented that despite the significance of this spiritual period, he was denied access to mosques, including Aali Masjid, where he was scheduled to deliver a religious sermon yesterday. Such actions not only restrict his fundamental freedoms of expression and religion but also hinder his religious duties of dawah, he said.
Mirwaiz underscored the virtues of Ramadan as outlined in the Qur’an and Hadith, highlighting the importance of both spiritual devotion and financial generosity during this sacred month. He urged the community to not only deepen their spiritual connection through prayer but also extend financial support to those in need, emphasizing the significance of zakat and charitable donations.
Highlighting the longstanding humanitarian efforts of Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil in aiding the less fortunate, Mirwaiz encouraged the community to contribute generously to support the institution’s initiatives during Ramadan. He expressed hope that such contributions would honor the spiritual and financial aspects of worship, reflecting the true essence of Ramadan.
Additionally, Mirwaiz announced a special waz o tableegh majlis scheduled to take place at Dastgir Sahib Sarai Bala on the 21st of Ramadan, commemorating the Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Ali (RA). This event aims to further spiritual enlightenment and religious teachings within the community.
Meanwhile, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic road accident near Battery Chashma Ramban on the National Highway, which claimed the lives of 10 individuals, Mirwaiz extended his heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the grieving families. He emphasized the importance of standing together during such difficult times and offered prayers for the departed souls.
