DMO Pulwama leads crackdown on mining mafia

24 vehicles, 3 LNTs seized

PAMPORE: In a significant crackdown on illegal mining activities, the Geology and Mining Department seized 24 vehicles and 3 LNTs (load and transport vehicles) used for the unauthorized extraction and transportation of raw materials. The raids were conducted in various areas of Pampore and other parts of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Led by District Mineral Officer (DMO) Pulwama, Er Mohammad Manzoor, a team from the Geology and Mining Department conducted the raids at multiple locations, including Khrew in Pampore. During the operation, three L&T Machines were confiscated for their involvement in illegal mineral extraction in the Daikhan Khrew area. The seized machines have been held at the Sub-office in Khrew for further legal action.
According to Mohammad Manzoor, 24 vehicles were seized during the raids conducted in Newa, Lassipora, Pampore, and Awantipora. These vehicles were found to be engaged in the unauthorized transportation of minerals.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, DMO Pulwama, Mohammad Manzoor, highlighted the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining activities, even during the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasized that field officials remain vigilant across various areas of Pulwama district, including Khrew, Pampore, Awantipora, Kakapora, Newa, and Lassipora.
Manzoor reiterated the zero-tolerance stance of the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama against illegal mining and affirmed that strict actions will be taken against offenders. He commended the dedication of the enforcement team, whose diligence led to the seizure of 24 vehicles and 3 heavy chain-type machines.
Despite the challenges posed by Ramadan, Manzoor assured the continuation of efforts to curb illegal mining across the district. Over the past three months, approximately 160 vehicles, including heavy chain-type machines, have been seized, with fines totaling Rs 60 lakh collected.
He affirmed that such drives will persist throughout Pulwama district, underscoring the administration’s unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal mining activities and preserving environmental integrity.
