Pulwama celebrates International Women’s Day, advocates empowerment, honors female achievers

PULWAMA: In honor of International Women’s Day, the Department of Social Welfare Pulwama, in collaboration with the District Administration, celebrated the occasion at Circuit House Pulwama on Friday.
The event was graced by Senior Superintendent of Police PD Nitya as the Chief Guest and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shahbaz Ahmad as the guest of honor.
Among the distinguished guests were Professor Dr. Yasmeen Farooq, Principal of Government Degree College for Women Pulwama, and Principals from various educational institutions including GDC Rajpora, GDC Awantipora, and GDC Pampore. Also in attendance were supervisors from Mission Poshan Pulwama, frontline workers from the Department of Health, female achievers from different fields, and officials from District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sakhi One Stop Centre, CHL, Superintendent Parisha & Palaash, as reported by Kashmir Reader.
Addressing the gathering, SSP Pulwama PD Nitya and Assistant Commissioner Revenue emphasized the pivotal role of women in nation-building. They shed light on women’s rights and discussed various centrally sponsored women-centric welfare schemes aimed at providing support to women to become self-reliant. They urged women to take advantage of these schemes and highlighted the steps taken by the district administration towards women empowerment.
DSWO Pulwama Azhar Amin (JKAS) highlighted the role of the Department of Health and Empowerment of Women (DHEW) in creating awareness about these schemes at the grassroots level. He emphasized that economic independence for women is a significant step towards their empowerment and encouraged women to utilize schemes aimed at establishing their own income-generating units.
During the event, speakers underscored the significant role played by women in various sectors including social, economic, political, educational, and judicial fronts. They stressed the importance of raising awareness about women’s rights and acknowledging their achievements.
Furthermore, a felicitation ceremony was organized to honor female officers who have demonstrated exemplary service in different fields. Several women achievers were presented with mementos and certificates of appreciation on this occasion.
