Man dies, 3 houses gutted in Nawakdal

Srinagar: One person died, and three residential houses were gutted in a major fire incident in the Jamalata area of old city Srinagar on Thursday evening.
The body of Bashir Ahmad was recovered from one of the gutted houses who died due to suffocation, Assistant Director of Fire and Emergency Service told media persons at the spot.
Bashir along with his wife and son were trapped when the fire engulfed the house. However, the firefighters rescued his wife and child but he died due to suffocation, he said.
He said three residential houses suffered extensive damage in the fire incident.
However, locals said that three other houses also suffered damage during the firefighting operation.
“The fire broke out at around 6.30 in the evening and firefighting engines from the nearby stations reached the spot within no time and fire was brought under control”, he said.
He said that the area is highly congested but the timely action by the firefighters saved the other houses. The cause of the fire is being ascertained, he said.
