Discrepancies in engine and chassis numbers, HSRP front and rear numbers, and vehicle class were identified upon initial examination.
The Traffic Police informed the Keegam Shopian Police post about the fake registration number plate, leading to the lodging of a criminal case (FIR number 10/2024) against the accused Mohammad Iqbal Bhat. The charges include sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC. The accused, Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, has been apprehended, and an investigation is underway.
In a similar vein, another vehicle with a fake registration plate has been identified by the Traffic Police in Budgam. Legal actions, invoking provisions under the Motor Vehicles and Criminal Acts, have been initiated in this case as well.
SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh clarified that the crackdown was initiated after receiving complaints from Jammu about receiving e-challans for a vehicle that had not traveled from Jammu to Srinagar. The seized vehicle in Shopian had a stolen registration plate, and the erasure of the plate was evident.
Singh urged legal owners to promptly report doubtful online challan messages, emphasizing the importance of a proactive approach in identifying vehicles with fake registration plates. This swift action ensures the initiation of legal proceedings and contributes to maintaining the integrity of vehicle registration records.
