Community outreach and challenges addressed
Pampore: In a commemoration of the 5th UT Foundation Day, the Sub District Hospital (SDH) in Pampore organized a special event within its premises on Tuesday. The program was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Asima Nazir, Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Pampore, Mir Altaf Ahmad, Chairman of the Block Development Council (BDC) in Pampore, and Dr. Bilal Ahmad, Resident Medical Officer (RMO).
The event was graced by the presence of doctors, health officials, health workers, and Asha Workers. This initiative, carried out under the directives of the Director of Health Services Kashmir and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Pulwama, aimed to extend essential health services and create awareness among the community.
The event saw active participation and engagement with different health stalls established by the hospital administration. Notably, attendees were offered screenings for high-risk medical conditions, including NTC screenings. For those requiring further medical attention, referrals to appropriate facilities were made. Additionally, the hospital extended support to patients visiting the Out-Patient Department (OPD) by assisting in the generation of Abha Cards and facilitating the processing of pending Aadhar cards. Furthermore, the hospital organized screenings for leprosy and tuberculosis, and a blood donation camp that garnered contributions from several generous donors.
The outreach of the event extended to the local market in Pampore, where awareness campaigns were conducted to educate people about the various schemes and services offered at SDH Pampore. The programs were geared towards empowering individuals with knowledge and services that could improve their overall well-being.
Mir Altaf Ahmad, BDC Chairman Pampore, commended the various initiatives undertaken during the UT celebration in Pampore. He noted that the registration of Abha Cards and the provision of Aadhar cards to those without them were particularly praiseworthy endeavors. Furthermore, he acknowledged the establishment of gold cards and Aadhar card registration as important milestones in the celebration. The BDC Chairman expressed great satisfaction with the efforts of the BMO, doctors, and health workers at SDH Pampore, emphasizing the hospital’s exceptional patient care, surgeries, and treatments.
Nevertheless, Mir Altaf Ahmad also drew attention to certain pressing issues that need addressing. He pointed out the vacancies in the doctor positions at the hospital, leading to challenges in OPD services due to a shortage of available doctors. He earnestly appealed to the administration and health authorities, including the LG, the Commissioner of Health, and the Director of Health Services in Kashmir, to promptly fill these vacant positions to enhance the hospital’s effectiveness.
Mir Altaf Ahmad stressed the importance of having specialists such as Radiologists, Orthopaedists, and Ophthalmologists readily available at the critical care hospital to cater to diverse medical needs. He emphasized the necessity of specialists in various fields to provide comprehensive healthcare services.
The BDC Chairman extended his gratitude to the BMO and the entire staff for accommodating patients from areas beyond the hospital’s jurisdiction, recognizing the hospital’s vital role in delivering medical care to a broader population.
In conclusion, while celebrating the 5th UT Foundation Day, SDH Pampore has not only honored the occasion but also illuminated the crucial role of healthcare institutions in reaching out to communities and addressing healthcare needs. The event showcases both the dedication of healthcare professionals and the need for continued support and improvement in medical services, underscoring the essential partnership between local healthcare and the community it serves.
