PAMPORE: The 8th District Pulwama Pencak Silat championship started at Government Degree College Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
The two-day championship was organised by Pencak Silat Association Pulwama under the banner of J&K Penchak Silat Association. It was inaugurated by Army’s 50 RR second in Commandant Rajeew who was the chief guest on the occasion. Tehsil official Mir Murwat Hussain, Prof Shah Lateef, Prof and other guests of honour were present at the inaugural function. Pencak Silat Association head Sajad Ahmad Bhat and members were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
At the event, around 300 players of different age groups from various parts of district Pulwama are participating and showcased their talent. The chief guest spoke on the occasion. He also interacted with the participating players and threw light on the importance of sports activities in the country. The best performers of the event will be shortlisted for the forthcoming national-level championships to be held this year at Goa.
