Integrated farming has huge potential, says Dir Agriculture

SRINAGAR: To review the physical and financial progress on the implementation of Capex budget (scheme wise/district wise), Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today chaired a meeting of officers of the department at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi Srinagar.
Addressing the meeting, Director Agriculture highlighted the importance of effective and timely utilization of funds for the welfare and wellbeing of the farming community of the region. He asked the officers to maintain accountability and transparency during all the levels of expenditures and submit the utilization certificate immediately on all the schemes.
While talking about the application to be processed by the farmers, all the officers were directed to make the farmers aware about the projects and help them to apply through dashboard for availing benefits under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) so that the deliverables for the year 2023-24 under the HADP shall be achieved.
Director Agriculture laid emphasis on lavender cultivation and directed officers for distribution of 15 lac stens of the lavender among the beneficiaries so that area expansion under the crop shall be achieved.
He impressed upon the officers to put in all the efforts for the successful implementation of farmers friendly schemes. He also asked them to evolve new concepts and innovations by adopting new cropping systems in the potential areas so that the productivity could be enhanced.
The Director Agriculture also visited different areas of Kupwara district and took stock of agriculture scenario in the district. During the visit, the Director inspected hi-tech poly houses at Handwara. He also reviewed the paddy nurseries in different villages of Kupwara district.
Addressing Kisan Sampark Abhiyan (under Holistic Agriculture Development Program) at Wadipora Handwara, the Director marked the importance of integrated farming for the area. He said to the farmers that the geo-climatic conditions of the concerned area are suitably conducive for the adoption of integrated way of cultivation.
Chowdhury Iqbal assured the farming community of every possible technical guidance from the department. He asked the concerned offices to prepare DPRs for the implementation of various initiatives under HADP. He asked the farmers to come forward and take benefit from all approved projects under HADP.
Amid prevailing weather conditions, the Director asked the farmers to follow the guidance and advisories by the department. He directed the concerned officers to closely monitor the agriculture activities in the area.
Director also met a number of farmer delegations and took feedback from them regarding the implementation of different programs by the department.
Among others, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Kashmir, Mohammed Younis Chowdhury was also present on the occasion.
