Srinagar: A gunfight took place between militants and joint team of police and army in Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Chakoora following inputs about the presence of the militants.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, they said, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
“Encounter has started at Chakoora area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” said a police spokesman on Twitter.
There were no reports of any casualty so far on either side when this report was filed.
