A case of lower lip carcinoma operated successfully: Doctors
PAMPORE: Sub District Hospital Keller in south Kashmir’s Shopian district achieved a rare feat by performing a first-of-its-kind surgery on an 80-year-old blind patient with lower lip carcinoma on Tuesday.
The team of doctors that conducted this surgery included plastic surgeon Dr Abid Saleem, Anaesthesiologist Dr Hilal Ahmad, Farooq Ahmad and Javaid Ahmad.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, Dr Abid Saleem said that the patient with lip outgrowth visited the Sub District Hospital Keller some weeks ago.
His biopsy was conducted and the result depicted moderately differentiated carcinoma which in common language is referred to as cancer, he said, adding that as the patient belongs to a poor family and is deaf and visually impaired, his family was reluctant to take him to SKIMS Soura Srinagar.
“The patient was finally operated on with a local incision and reconstruction was done by lip advancement flap,” he said, adding that the patient is now fine and performing well
Block Medical Officer Keller Dr Rafiq Ahmad said that this is the first such kind of surgery done at SDH Keller. He appreciated the team of doctors and ensure them of his support in serving patients.
The brother of the patient said that they are thankful to the doctors who accepted their request to operate on the patient at SDH Keller which is the nearest health facility to their native village of Checki Badrinath in Pulwama.
