SRINAGAR: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation at the University campus. The programme was organized by the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) under the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging.”
The Prof. N. A. Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and emphasized the importance of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged students to adopt yoga as an integral part of their daily lives for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He highlighted the role of yoga in reducing stress, improving concentration, and fostering overall wellness.
The Vice-Chancellor also advised students to avoid the excessive use of mobile phones, particularly during late hours, stating that a healthy lifestyle requires discipline, adequate rest, and mindful use of technology. He further encouraged students to establish a Yoga Club on the campus to promote regular yoga practice and wellness activities among the student community.
The programme was conducted by Ms. Vandana Daftari, Regional Director, Art of Living, J&K who guided participants through various yoga practices and shared valuable insights on the significance of gratitude in everyday life. She emphasized that being grateful for the blessings and opportunities we have contributes greatly to mental peace, happiness, and overall well-being.
The Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. S. A. Gangoo also addressed the participants and elaborated on the importance of yoga as a holistic approach to health and healthy aging. He encouraged students to embrace yoga not only as a physical exercise but also as a way of life that nurtures balance, self-awareness, and resilience.
The event was coordinated and organized by Dr. Seemi Lohani, Students’ Welfare Officer (HQ), whose efforts ensured the successful conduct of the programme. More than 100 students participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.
Among those present were Prof. Rohitashw Kumar, Associate Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (CoAE&T), SKUAST-K, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Langoo Warden Boys hostel, faculty members, officers, staff, and students from various constituent colleges of the University.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards promoting health, wellness, and mindfulness through the regular practice of yoga, in line with the spirit of International Yoga Day 2026.
