SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir State Blood Transfusion Council (JKSBTC) and J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) on Friday observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, with active participation from healthcare professionals, voluntary donors, civil society, students, and the public.
The event was attended by notable guests, including Dr. Krishan Kumar, Director of the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC), Dr. Megha Pravin Khobragade, Deputy Director General of DGHS, Dr. Fazlul Qadir Parrey, Principal of SKIMS Bemina, and Dr. Jehangir Bakshi, Director of Health Services Kashmir and JKSBTC.
The programme began with the inauguration of a voluntary blood donation camp, reaffirming the health sector’s commitment to ensuring safe, adequate blood supplies for all patients. Representatives from JKACS and JKSBTC highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, emphasizing that each donation can save multiple lives and is vital for emergency care, surgeries, maternal health, and treatment of conditions like thalassemia.
Dr. Kumar thanked blood donors for their selfless service, calling them society’s heroes who give hope and a second chance at life. Dr. Bakshi linked the spirit of blood donation to the values of sacrifice and service associated with Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), urging youth and community groups to turn blood donation into a widespread humanitarian movement.
Principal Parrey acknowledged the growing culture of voluntary donation in J&K and the role of youth, religious groups, and educational institutions. The dignitaries stressed strengthening voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation as the safest and most sustainable source, praising donors, blood banks, and healthcare workers. The event concluded with the felicitation of voluntary donors, reaffirming the commitment to promoting regular blood donation for a healthier society.
