NEW DELHI: The minority and Scheduled Caste (SC) departments of the Congress on Saturday decided to launch a joint nationwide campaign against what is called oppression and injustice faced by minorities and Dalits.
As part of the initiative, they will organize a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20, followed by conventions across the country.
Head of the Congress SC department Rajendra Pal Gautam and chairman of the minority department of the party Imran Pratapgarhi announced the programme following a joint meeting of the two departments.
“We have decided today that the Congress party’s SC and minority departments will jointly fight for the people. Under this campaign, conventions will be held not only at the national level but also at the state, district, and block levels,” Gautam said.
He said the tribal department of the Congress would also be included alongside the minority and SC departments in upcoming conventions, followed by efforts to bring in the backward classes and the poor from the general category, to ensure the voices of all these sections are raised.
“This campaign will be taken to all states across the country by the Congress party’s minority and SC departments. Wherever cases of oppression and injustice come to light, we will jointly stand with the victims and provide all possible assistance,” Pratapgarhi said.
He added, “Our objective is to instill confidence among the deprived and weaker sections of society that everyone receives justice and equal rights under the Constitution of Bhimrao Ambedkar.”
Pratapgarhi said with this objective in mind, the protest demonstration would be organized at Jantar Mantar.
He also mentioned that the national and state advisory councils of the minority and SC departments would organize a joint programme in Lucknow in the third week of June.
