Two notorious peddlers booked under PIT NDPS
Srinagar: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police has stepped up efforts to combat drug trafficking, misuse, and cultivation across the Union Territory through a series of successful operations, raids, and public awareness initiatives.
In a major breakthrough, police in Anantnag seized 3.265 kilograms of Charas during two separate cases. At Rakh Nowbug, a police team from Bijbehara arrested Umar Rasheed Ganie with 295 grams of Charas. In a separate operation based on a tip-off, police recovered approximately 2.97 kilograms of Charas from Bashir Ahmad Dar’s residence in Natipora. Both cases have been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, police booked two notorious drug peddlers, Feroz Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Ashraf Dar, under PIT NDPS Act and lodged them in jails outside the Valley to dismantle their networks and prevent re-entry into the drug trade.
In Awantipora, police conducted multiple raids in Beighpora, Chersoo, Kawani, and Rajpora to curb narcotics activity and identify those involved. An awareness programme at Khrew educated locals and youth about the dangers of drug abuse, emphasizing community participation in building a drug-free society.
Baramulla police organized an anti-drug rally involving students, shopkeepers, and residents from Girls Higher Secondary School Dewan Bagh to Khanpora Main Chowk. The event aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and promote healthy lifestyles. Moreover, police destroyed wild cannabis cultivation spread over approximately one Kanal at Saderbal Palhalan, reinforcing their commitment to eradicate illicit cultivation.
In another significant operation, police in Anantnag intercepted an Eon vehicle and recovered 4.475 kilograms of Charas concealed in the front doors, along with ₹50,000 in cash. The accused, Sajad Ahmad Bhat and Abdul Gani Dar, have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, with investigations underway to dismantle the drug supply chain.
J&K Police organized an anti-drug awareness road race in Baramulla in collaboration with local authorities and organizations, drawing participation from students and residents to promote a drug-free environment. Similar initiatives included awareness programmes at Sumo Stand Awantipora and drug peddlers’ crackdown in Sail and Beighpora areas, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation.
The police force reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and appeals to the public for continued cooperation and information sharing to help eradicate the drug menace from Jammu and Kashmir. These collective efforts aim to create a safer, healthier society for all.
