Axis Bank plans 500 new branches in FY-27

SRINAGAR: With a well-diversified presenceinall 30 districts, Axis Bank operates 258 branches, including 35 branches in Bhubaneswar, along with 300 ATMs and cash recyclers in the State. This extensive network ensures broad access to banking services across urban, semi-urban, and rural regions. A significant share of this presence is anchored in the Bank’s ‘Bharat Banking’ approach, with over 74% of branches located in rural and semi urban areas, facilitatingfinancial inclusion and wider participation in the formal economy.
As part of its forward-looking strategy, Axis Bank is advancing its ‘phygital’ banking model, seamlessly integrating digital capabilities with physical network. Nearly three-fourths of routine branch transactions have now migrated to digital channels,enhancing efficiency and customer convenience. With its digital-first approach, Axis Bank has introduced AI-led tools like Adi and Siddhi to enhance productivity and customer engagement, alongside 24×7 Express Banking Digital Points and the industry-first fully digital Digi Locker Branch.
At the same time, Axis Bank continues to lead the UPI Payer PSP space, with a 39% market share by volume, supported by strong infrastructure and among the lowest technical decline rates in the industry. The Bank has deepened partnerships with Google Pay and PhonePe, while strengthening resilience through cloud-led solutions on Microsoft Azure. Axis Mobile has scaled to 15 million monthly active users with consistently high ratings, and the Bank remains a leading merchant acquirer, with a 21.4% terminal market share and 16% payment throughput across POS, QR, Soundbox, and Payment Gateway solutions.
The Bank continues to play an active role in supporting Odisha’s key economic clusters, spanning MSME and trading hubs in Cuttack, Bargarh, Balasore, Ganjam, and Nayagarh; industrial and metals belts such as Angul, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and the Kalinga Nagar region; as well as the rapidly emerging IT and services ecosystem in Bhubaneswar. This cluster-led approach enables the Bank to align closely with the state’s evolving economic priorities.
With MSMEs as a focused segment, the Bank is enabling their growth through solutions such as merchant cash advances, quick overdrafts, and early ecosystem engagement under Project Pravesh, complemented by cluster led outreach across 100+ districts. Axis Bank has also introduced differentiated offerings, including UPI enabled Gold Loans and microfinance co origination models, to advance financial inclusion.Platforms such as Neo for Business further support MSMEs with beyond banking solutions like invoicing and payroll, while digital onboarding and end to end credit journeys are simplifying access to finance for both retail and business customers.
Building on this foundation of public digital infrastructure, the Bank has also introduced initiatives such as the ‘Digital Hundi – Samarpan’ platform for the Shree Jagannath Temple, reflecting its focus on combining cultural relevance with secure digital innovation.
Axis Bank remains equally focused on customer safety and financial awareness. Over the last financial year, the Bank conducted 1,000+ financial literacy camps across 100 rural branches, reaching approximately 16,800 participants. Targeted initiatives, including senior-citizen engagement and digital fraud awareness programmes, have helped build confidence in safe and responsible banking practices.
