Srinagar: In a decisive move to combat drug trafficking and dismantle illegal narcotics networks across Jammu and Kashmir, police authorities have intensified their efforts under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan. Demonstrating a firm commitment to eradicating the menace, police in Srinagar and Pulwama executed significant actions, including demolishing a high-value illegal property linked to a wanted drug peddler and attaching a vehicle involved in narcotics-related activities.
In Srinagar, Police Station Lal Bazar carried out a major demolition drive targeting an illegal two-storey structure along with an adjoining room and washroom constructed on state land at Haka Bazar, Lal Bazar. The structure, spread over approximately nine Marlas, was valued at around ₹1.5 crore. The operation was conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate Khanyar and officials from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, ensuring that the action adhered strictly to legal procedures.
The demolition was linked to the activities of a wanted drug peddler, Arshid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Wali Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Haka Bazar Lal Bazar. Sheikh is involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including FIR No. 31/2025 under Sections 8/21/22 at Police Station Janipur Jammu and FIR No. 50/2025 under Sections 8/20 at Police Station Lal Bazar. The illegal property was identified as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the financial and infrastructural support system that sustains narcotics trade.
The police reiterated its unwavering commitment to eradicating drug-related activities and called upon the public to support these efforts by sharing any information related to drug peddling or other illegal activities in their localities. Such community cooperation is vital in ensuring timely and effective action against drug mafias.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama, the police intensified its crackdown on narcotics networks by attaching a vehicle linked to drug trafficking. The vehicle, bearing registration number JK13B-7561, was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 269/2025 at Police Station Pulwama, registered under Sections 8/21/29 NDPS Act as well as Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The attachment was carried out by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Pulwama during ongoing investigations into a narcotics case. The vehicle was found to be directly involved in illegal drug activities and was seized after the completion of all legal formalities under relevant laws. This action underscores the authorities’ resolve to target all assets used in or acquired through the illegal drug trade.
These actions are part of a sustained and comprehensive anti-narcotics campaign launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police, which includes demolishing illegal properties, attaching assets, conducting raids, and public awareness drives. The police have emphasized that dismantling drug networks involves not just enforcement but also community participation. They have repeatedly appealed to residents to come forward with information on drug peddlers, illegal cultivation, and trafficking activities.
The police’s firm stance reflects their goal to eliminate the drug menace from society, safeguard youth, and foster a safer environment for all communities. The combined efforts of law enforcement agencies and public cooperation are seen as crucial in achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
