Mirwaiz questions UAPA action against Sirajul Uloom

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Monday voiced serious concern over what he described as a growing pattern of coercive measures impacting citizens across Jammu and Kashmir.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said that multiple agencies are increasingly pursuing ordinary citizens under varying pretexts, while properties of locals are being confiscated. “Students protesting alleged misconduct are being booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and sent to jails outside the region, adversely affecting their lives and future prospects,” he said.
Mirwaiz also pointed out that a sitting Member of Parliament has been denied bail to visit his critically ill father, terming it deeply troubling. He added, “A prominent educational institute Sirajul Uloom Shopian, with a longstanding legacy of serving underprivileged sections and producing scholars, doctors, engineers, and professionals has now been declared unlawful under stringent provisions of the UAPA.”
“How long would such policies of harassment and disempowerment would continue, and whether the LG administration would offer clarity to the people of Kashmir,” he asked. He also questioned how long the elected government would remain a silent spectator to these developments.
