SRINAGAR: The General Secretary of the National Conference Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar Thursday reiterated that public welfare remains the central agenda of the party stating that the government is making full use of available resources to provide relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing party office bearers and workers, Sagar said that the people of Kashmir have faced immense hardships in recent years and are in urgent need of relief.
He alleged that certain political forces had deceived the people and played a role in the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, adding that such parties will not be forgiven by the people.
He asserted that National Conference remains the only genuine representative party capable of delivering relief to the people while continuing efforts to restore fundamental democratic and constitutional rights.
He added that the party takes pride in its historical contributions and revolutionary steps undertaken for public welfare. Highlighting the government’s work since its formation, he said that significant progress has been made over the past one and a half years across key sectors. These include reforms in the education sector, improvements in electricity supply and major initiatives to ensure access to clean drinking water.
He further stated that administrative machinery has been made more accessible to the public, including the opening of the Secretariat for public outreach. On the issue of unemployment, he noted that thousands of young people have been supported through loans and assistance to promote self-reliance. He also welcomed the announcement by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the provision of 25,000 government jobs during the current year.
Referring to the Private University Bill, Sagar described it as a historic initiative, stating that its approval would enable reputed universities to establish campuses in the region, thereby allowing local students to pursue higher education without leaving J&K.
He urged party functionaries to strengthen the organisation and actively work towards addressing the grievances and developmental needs of the people.
