SKUAST-K holds special lecture on status of groundwater in J&K

SRINAGAR: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised a special lecture on ‘Status and Dynamics of Groundwater in Jammu & Kashmir with Hydrogeological Insights from the Srinagar Urban Agglomeration’ at the Division of Soil Sciences, Shalimar campus.
The lecture was delivered under the Soil Science Café lecture series organised by the Division of Soil Science, SKUAST-K. The invited speaker, Rayees Ahmed Pir, is a highly accomplished hydrogeologist and distinguished scientist, who is currently serving as Senior Scientist at the Central Ground Water Board, North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
The Head, Division of Soil Science, Dr. Muzaffar Ah. Malik, reflected that the lecture was highly relevant and timely, especially in the context of climate variability, urbanization, and sustainable water resource management. The speaker, Rayees Ahmed Pir, covered the topics like Aquifer dynamics, topographical variations affecting the ground water recharges, seasonal and temporal changes in the Jammu Kashmir Division and its relationship with the different types of soils in the valley. Scientists and students shared their queries and research ideas with the speaker at the end of the lecture. The program was moderated by Dr Shaista Nazir, Assistant professor, Division of Soil Science.
