Hajin: A sensitisation and awareness programme for senior citizens under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVAY) was organised by the Social Welfare Department Bandipora at Town Hall MC Hajin on Wednesday.
The programme was chaired by Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Sumbal, Fayaz Ahmad Lone. Officials from J&K Bank, including Rameez Ahmad and Ghulam Hassan, were also present on the occasion.
During the programme, resource persons delivered lectures on digital and financial literacy, besides highlighting the rights, protection and dignity of senior citizens. They also stressed the need to create awareness about various welfare schemes meant for the elderly.
Addressing the gathering, TSWO Fayaz Ahmad Lone spoke in detail about the welfare schemes being implemented by the Social Welfare Department for the benefit of senior citizens. He said the department is organising a series of intergenerational bonding programmes for elderly persons to make them aware of different welfare schemes.
He added that the focus of the programme was also on digital and financial literacy, particularly on how senior citizens can safeguard themselves from online banking frauds.
On the occasion, a nukkad natak was also presented by Reshi Cultural Forum Safapora to raise awareness about welfare schemes for elderly persons.
