SRINAGAR: Continuing its vigorous crackdown on illegal mining, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken significant action across several districts. In Awantipora, police seized five vehicles—including two loaders, two tractors, and one dumper—and arrested five individuals involved in illegal transportation of minerals in the Datpora and Reshipora areas.
The accused are Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat, Nadeem Ahmad Mir, Sajad Ahmad Dar, Ali Mohd Dar, and Zubair Ahmad Mir. Authorities have appealed to community members to come forward with any information related to illegal mineral activities in their neighborhoods, a police spokesperson said in a statement issued here.
In addition, police in Shopian and Kulgam districts intercepted and seized five vehicles engaged in unauthorized mineral extraction and transportation. In Shopian, a dumper, tractor, and JCB were caught without valid royalty documents, leading to FIR No. 25/2026 being registered at Police Station Shopian. Similarly, in Kulgam’sKhudwaniQaimoh area, two Tippers involved in illegal mining were seized, and FIR No. 19/2026 was registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police reaffirm their commitment to protecting the region’s natural resources and have called on the public to assist in reporting unlawful mining activities. Strict legal action will be taken against violators, and the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
