Ramban forest officials register fresh FIR against accused for assault, obstruction

Must read

Ramban: The Forest Division Ramban has registered a new FIR against Aqeel Ahmed Ganai, who is already embroiled in an ongoing case related to forest damage. The fresh FIR, FIR No. 08/2026, was filed at Police Station Gool following a series of misconduct and obstruction of official duties by the accused.
Ganai was previously involved in Damage Case No. 02 of 2025–26, with FIR No. 57/2025 filed at Gool Police Station, currently under trial before the Divisional Forest Officer. Despite the ongoing proceedings, Ganai reportedly continued to lodge complaints against Forest Range Gool officers, which officials say were baseless.
During a departmental inquiry into his conduct, Ganai allegedly misbehaved, used abusive language, and manhandled a government officer within the office premises. Field verification of his allegations reportedly revealed no substantive evidence. When the findings were presented, Ganai was accused of assaulting the officer again in the field, obstructing official duties, and attempting to blackmail concessionists by issuing a “Jammu Notice” under the pretext of facilitating concessions.
Following the incident, authorities at Police Station Gool detained Ganai and registered FIR No. 08/2026 under relevant provisions of law, including sections related to assault and obstruction of government work.
The Divisional Forest Officer condemned Ganai’s actions, asserting that any attempts to intimidate or hinder forest officials will be met with strict legal action. He also appealed to the public to cooperate in safeguarding forest resources and supporting the efforts of authorities in maintaining law and order in the region.
