J&K issues over 26,500 EWS certificates, Govt tells Assembly

Srinagar:The government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 26,558 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates have been issued across Jammu and Kashmir so far, clarifying that rejections occur only when applicants fail to meet the prescribed eligibility norms.

 

According to the data shared by the government, 24,545 EWS certificates were issued in the Jammu division, while 2,013 certificates were issued in the Kashmir division. The information was provided in response to a query raised by legislator Ali Mohammad Dar.

 

District-wise figures show Kathua leading with 6,972 certificates, followed by Jammu with 5,881 and Samba with 4,436.

 

In the Kashmir division, Anantnag recorded the highest issuance with 483 certificates, followed by Kulgam with 390 and Baramulla with 332.

 

The government stated that each application undergoes strict scrutiny as per the rules and guidelines, adding that EWS certificates are denied only when applicants fail to meet the criteria laid down under SRO 518 of 2019—(KNO)
