IGNOU launches new B.Sc. Fabric and Apparel Design program

SRINAGAR: IGNOU has introduced a new four-year undergraduate programme, B.Sc. in Fabric and Apparel Design, starting with the 2026 academic cycle. The program aims to impart comprehensive knowledge and practical skills related to fabric production, apparel manufacturing processes, quality control, supply chain management, and product development. It is designed to educate students in textile science, fashion design, and garment construction.

The primary objectives of this programme are to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the fabric and apparel manufacturing industry, equip them with the technical expertise needed for fabric and apparel production, develop specialized skills in manufacturing processes, and ensure proficiency in maintaining quality standards within the clothing and boutique sector.

Aligned with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme offers a flexible, multidisciplinary approach to fashion education. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), placing it on par with regular university degrees. Graduates will be eligible for employment opportunities in both government and private sectors worldwide, said Dr. A.H. Rizvi, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre Srinagar.

The programme opens a wide array of career opportunities, including Textile/Fabric Designer, Fashion Designer, Apparel Pattern Maker/Technical Designer, Fashion Illustrator, Fashion Merchandiser, Visual Merchandiser, Fashion Educator/Trainer, as well as entrepreneurial and startup ventures.
