Unveils logo, website for its 2026 presidency
NEW DELHI: India assumed the presidency of the BRICS grouping on January 1 this year. On Tuesday, January 13, the country unveiled its official website and logo for the BRICS Presidency 2026.
The BRICS Presidency 2026 website and logo launch event was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who said on the occasion that India, during its chairship of the key global grouping, will work to bring together the potential of BRICS member countries for greater global welfare.
Jaishankar noted that India is assuming the presidency when BRICS is marking 20 years since its inception. The minister said BRICS has evolved into a significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies.
“Over the years, BRICS has expanded its agenda and membership, responding to changing global realities, while remaining focused on people-centric development, fostering dialogue, and promoting practical cooperation,” Jaishankar said in his address on the occasion.
He listed several complex and interlinked challenges that the world faces at this juncture, including geopolitical uncertainties, complicated economic landscapes, climate-related risks, technological changes, and persistent development gaps.
BRICS, Jaishankar said, becomes an important forum in this context as it encourages dialogue and cooperation and practical responses, while also considering national priorities.
The minister also touched upon the issue of multilateralism in global order, stating that the world is navigating multiple complex challenges at this moment.
“The call for a reinvigorated, inclusive, and effective multilateral order has never been more urgent. BRICS must commit to a reformed multilateralism that reflects contemporary realities, one where institutions like the United Nations, the WTO, IMF, and the World Bank are representative and inclusive,” he said.
India will carry out its duties as the president of BRICS in 2026 with a humanity-first and a people-centric approach, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated Jaishankar.
The minister said the theme of India’s presidency – building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability – underscores the importance of strengthening capacities, promoting innovation, and ensuring sustainable development for the benefit of all.
“The logo that we unveiled today reflects this approach. It combines elements of tradition and modernity, and the petals incorporate the colours of all BRICS member countries, representing unity and diversity and a strong sense of shared purpose.
“The logo conveys the idea that BRICS draws strength from the collective contributions of its members while respecting their distinct identities,” the External Affairs Minister said, explaining the thought behind the design of the logo.
The BRICS India website, which was launched this morning, will serve as a single-point platform for information on meetings, initiatives, and outcomes of the grouping’s activities.
Jaishankar further talked about four broad priorities of India’s presidency, namely resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability.
He also listed the three foundational pillars of BRICS – political and security; economic and financial; and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The foreign minister said India will work to build structural institutional strengths which can help weather global shocks. Further, the country will seek to work with BRICS member countries “to build resilience in agriculture, in health, in disaster risk reduction, energy and supply chains, including through cooperative frameworks that enhance collective preparedness and response.”
During its presidency of the BRICS, India will also focus on the deployment of new and emerging technologies in order to address socio-economic challenges.
“Enhanced cooperation in areas such as start-ups, MSMEs, and new and emerging technologies can contribute meaningfully to building a more equitable world. India attaches equal importance to cooperation and sustainability and will work to advancing climate action, promoting clean energy, and supporting sustainable development pathways in a manner that is fair and sensitive,” the minister stated further.
