National Mathematics Day celebrated at IUST

AWANTIPORA: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), through its Department of Mathematical Sciences, celebrated National Mathematics Day to honour the birth anniversary of eminent mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and emphasize the importance of mathematics in contemporary science, technology, and innovation.
The programme brought together faculty, research scholars, and students in an academically enriching setting, highlighting mathematics’ central role in scientific research, technological advancement, and interdisciplinary applications. It featured expert talks reflecting on Ramanujan’s contributions and the ongoing relevance of mathematical thinking in modern research and problem-solving.
On this occasion, Dr. Peer Bilal Ahmad, Head Department of Mathematical Sciences, emphasized mathematics’ pivotal role in research, innovation, and problem-solving, while Dr. Hashim Rasool, Head Department of Physics, discussed its interdisciplinary applications across science and engineering. The celebration also included presentations by research scholars and students, fostering academic exchange, critical thinking, and scholarly engagement.
