Planting Seeds For The Hereafter: A Mother’s Prayer And A Child’s Unrehearsed Love

Must read

In an era of material ambition and academic pressure, a mother’s focus on character and prayer offers a timeless blueprint for nurturing the soul

Dr Fazal Wani

In an age where parenting is often measured by academic success, material comfort, and early exposure to technology, a simple yet deeply touching moment between a mother and her young son offered a powerful reminder of what truly shapes a child’s future.

Standing before her son, the mother spoke with firmness, but her words carried neither anger nor ego. They carried concern, love, and responsibility. She explained that her strictness did not arise from harshness, but from fear for his moral well-being and hope for his righteousness. Her aspiration was not that her child become wealthy or famous, but that he grow into a pious, upright individual who would benefit his community and remember his parents in prayer even after their death.

As she spoke, the child began to cry not out of fear, but from the emotional weight of her words. The mother then raised her hands in prayer, asking Allah to make her among those mothers who will be honoured on the Day when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit, except those brought with a pure heart. She prayed for joy through her son in this world and for him to be a source of reward in the hereafter. Her supplication extended beyond her own child, embracing all children, reflecting a heart that understood motherhood as a trust, not a possession.

What followed was a moment that left me speechless. When asked what he would say to his mother in return, the young boy paused for a moment. His eyes were moist, his voice steady. With a sincerity that reflected the moral upbringing he had received, he replied, “If I had the whole world in my hands, I would willingly and lovingly gift it to her.”

This was not a rehearsed response, but a reflection of values absorbed through consistent guidance, love, and example. It showed that when children are raised with compassion, faith, and respect, these qualities naturally find expression even at a tender age.

This scene stands in sharp contrast to contemporary parenting trends. Today, many children are handed mobile phones to keep them occupied, to buy silence, or to create space for adults. While expectations from children continue to rise for success, competitiveness, and excellence, the time and patience required to nurture their inner character often diminish. Moral education, meaningful conversation, and spiritual grounding are quietly replaced by screens and shortcuts. Children do not learn values through instructions alone; they learn by observation, repetition, and emotional connection. When a mother prioritises character over convenience and prayer over pressure, she plants seeds that no external influence can uproot.

This mother’s message reminds us that raising a child is not merely about preparing them for the world, but about preparing them for life both here and beyond. In a world racing toward instant gratification, her words and her child’s response stand as a gentle yet powerful call to return to conscious, value-based parenting.
