Cocaine worth over ₹10 crore recovered in Ganderbal
Srinagar: In a decisive and proactive effort against organized drug trafficking, the J&K Police in Ganderbal has intensified operations targeting the procurement and sale of high-value narcotics such as Cocaine and Heroin, dealing a significant blow to regional drug networks.
During a series of special naka checking operations conducted on December 8, 2025, Ganderbal police apprehended one suspect, Mohd Irfan Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, a resident of Kharbagh Wakura, Ganderbal. A case was registered under FIR No. 200/2025 at Police Station Ganderbal, under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation was initiated, a police spokesperson stated.
Given the seriousness of the offence and the suspect’s contacts, a specialized investigation team was formed under SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, supervised by Addl. SP Ganderbal Shri Owaise Loun-JKPS. The team was tasked with tracing the supply chain and interlinkages of traffickers involved in distributing similar high-value narcotics. Investigating Officer SI Gulzar Hussain (In-charge PP Shadipora) has conducted extensive efforts to uncover the drug nexus.
Following court-issued search warrants, coordinated raids were carried out at multiple locations, including Sumbal, Shadipora, Zakura, and other suspected hideouts.
As a major breakthrough, the police identified and detained another notorious drug peddler, Maqsood Hussain Khan, son of Abdul Majeed Khan, a resident of Hazratbal, Srinagar, currently staying in Gooripora, Sanat Nagar. During searches at his rented residence in Gooripora on December 16/17, 2025, police recovered approximately 1 kilogram of Cocaine-like substance, valued at over Rs. 10 Crore in the international illicit drug market. Authorities also seized a vehicle, cell phones, and other electronic gadgets.
The investigation is ongoing to identify the source, supply chain, and possible inter-state or international links involved in trafficking this high-value narcotic. Officials anticipate more arrests and recoveries in the coming days as efforts intensify to dismantle the drug network.
