HAJIN: The Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Hajin has constituted a three-member committee to inquire into allegations of gross overpricing of school books by a local bookseller, after a video highlighting the issue surfaced on social media.
According to the order issued on Friday, several parents have accused the bookseller of charging exorbitant and unjustified rates for textbooks, compelling families to pay far beyond the actual cost. The allegations have triggered widespread concern in the area.
The ZEO office has also taken note of claims that a particular school may be indirectly involved in facilitating the alleged malpractice, adding to the distress of parents.
The inquiry committee comprises Mohammad Shafi Wani, Lecturer, HSS Hajin; Mohammad Azam, Master GHS Hajin; and Firdous Ahmad Parray, Jr. Assistant, ZEO Office Hajin.
The committee has been tasked with verifying the allegations, examining whether any school or staff member was involved, collecting statements from parents and the bookseller, and scrutinising receipts and price lists. It has been asked to submit a factual report with recommendations within one day.
The ZEO said further action will be taken once the committee submits its findings.
