SRINAGAR: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar observed the 76th Constitution Day with solemnity and patriotic fervor, in line with the directives of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The event aimed to reinforce commitment to constitutional values and enhance awareness among students, faculty, and staff.
The ceremony was led by In-charge Director Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, who also served as the Chief Guest. It was organized by Dr. Ashok Kumar, Nodal Officer EBSB, and Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, Nodal Officer NSS. Attendees included institute officials such as Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, Deans, Department Heads, and administrative officers.
The program featured an oath-taking and a collective reading of the Preamble in Hindi and English, allowing participants to reflect on justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—the core principles of the Constitution.
In her address, Prof. Mir emphasized the Constitution’s relevance in shaping India’s democratic identity. “It is a living commitment to nation-building, social equity, and progress,” she stated. She urged students to deepen their understanding of constitutional values, especially amid India’s socio-economic changes, to participate actively in democracy and societal development.
Registrar Prof. Rehman highlighted the role of educational institutions in upholding these values. He stressed that Constitution Day offers an opportunity to reaffirm faith in the principles laid down by the framers. “Every member of this campus must embody fairness, inclusivity, and justice in daily life,” he said. He also noted that constitutional rights are linked to duties, urging students to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.
The event concluded with a pledge to promote constitutional awareness and uphold democratic values.
Constitution Day, also called ‘Samvidhan Divas,’ commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949, which came into effect on January 26, 1950. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment officially designated November 26 as Constitution Day in 2015 to foster awareness of constitutional principles among citizens.
