Er. Ehtisham expresses deep concern over JKPSC’s ‘anti-merit’ recruitment pattern Urges LG Sinha’s immediate intervention

SRINAGAR: A noted social and student rights activist Er. Ehtisham Khan, Co-founder of The Purpose (NGO), has strongly condemned the latest notification issued by the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for the J&K Prosecution Services 2025, calling it “yet another blow to merit and equal opportunity”.
The notification, which invites applications for 65 posts of Prosecuting Officers, allocates merely 26 positions to the Unreserved/Open Merit category, leaving nearly 70 percent of the total posts under various reserved categories. “This disproportionate distribution is not only regressive but strikes at the very foundation of fairness and justice,” Khan said in a statement issued here.
He emphasized that Prosecuting Officers are entrusted with one of the most sensitive responsibilities in the justice system — presenting cases in courts, ensuring the guilty are punished and the innocent are protected. “These appointments directly shape the integrity of our justice delivery. When merit takes a backseat, justice itself stands compromised,” he remarked.
Referring to the “pattern of repeated discrimination” against the open-merit segment, Khan said that this policy reflects a systematic betrayal of deserving youth. “The government’s silence on this ongoing imbalance exposes its indifference toward merit and equality. It is disheartening to witness such bias in institutions that are meant to be impartial and just,” he added.
At the same time, Khan expressed faith in the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, urging his personal intervention to review the recruitment pattern and uphold the principles of justice and meritocracy. “I remain hopeful that the Hon’ble LG, known for his fairness and integrity, will ensure that the voices of thousands of deserving aspirants do not go unheard,” he said.
Khan reaffirmed his commitment to continue raising his voice peacefully and persistently against every unfair policy that deprives youth of equal opportunity, adding that “our fight is not against any community, but against injustice in the name of equality.
