Srinagar: Kulgam legislator, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday sought a fresh media policy for the distribution of advertisements as per standards and said that the freedom of press as well as the reporters must be protected.
Speaking during the special session in the Legislative Assembly, Tarigami said that the media has been facing difficult times as several media organizations are not even being provided the advertisements.
He also highlighted the newspaper, facing continuous suspension of advertisements, saying that many newspapers are not receiving the advertisements while the empanelment has also been pending for many papers as well despite these newspapers working as a bridge between the government and the people.
He said that a fresh media policy must be framed for one of the pillars of democracy and the newspaper should get advertisements as per the standard. “Besides, we must protect the freedom of the press and our reporters,” Tarigami said. (KNO)
