Urges central govt to show compassion

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq has voiced serious concern over the worsening health of Kashmiri leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Yasin Malik, based on recent family visits.

In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz said, “Shah Sahab’s wife wrote to him, reporting that their daughter, who visited Shah Sahab after a month, observed that his health is rapidly declining due to multiple complications and a lack of urgent medical care. The family has requested that Shah Sahab be shifted home and that his house be converted into a jail so they can provide him with necessary medical attention, as his condition cannot tolerate further delay.”

Mirwaiz appealed to the central government to show compassion and, on humanitarian grounds, consider releasing Shabir Shah or, at the very least, placing him under house arrest for better medical care.

Mirwaiz also mentioned that Yasin Malik’s mother and sister, who recently met him in jail, reported that his prolonged incarceration has severely affected his physical and mental health, and he too requires urgent medical assistance. He expressed distress over the suffering endured by these leaders and other detainees, highlighting concerns about the worsening health conditions of many Kashmiris lodged in jails inside and outside Jammu and Kashmir.

‘These are human issues that transcend political differences and called on authorities and the judiciary to provide immediate and adequate medical care to all detainees in need,” Mirwaiz said.

He also urged elected representatives, especially the ruling party in the J&K Assembly, to unite and actively work towards securing the release and relief of Kashmiri prisoners held under harsh laws.
