453 recruits, including 209 women, graduate after nine months of rigorous training
LG Gupta calls for growth, gender equality in strengthening Ladakh Police
LEH: The Dikshant Parade of 453 Constables, following nine months of Basic Recruit Training Course(BRTC) at the Commando Training Center, Lethpora, was held on Saturday at the Police TrainingCentre, Stongsar, ChushotGongma. This momentous event marks a historic milestone for theUnion Territory of Ladakh, as it celebrated the first-ever Passing Out Parade of Ladakh PoliceConstables.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, asthe Chief Guest, along with Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, and Dr. ShivDarshan Singh Jamwal, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Ladakh, besides senior officers fromthe Administration and Ladakh Police and families of passing out constables. The program beganwith welcome address by Principal, PTC, Stongsar, Shri Altaf Ahmad Shah, IPS who briefed aboutthe rigorous training program given to 453 recruit constables.
In his address, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor expressed pride in witnessing the remarkablegrowth of the youngest police force in the country. He highlighted the establishment of thePolice Training Centre, Stongsar in 2022 as a pivotal step toward achieving self-sufficiency andcapacity building of the Ladakh Police.
He lauded the progress made in infrastructure, modernization, and manpower development overthe last five years since the formation of the Union Territory and appreciated the welfareinitiatives introduced by Ladakh Police, including housing and training programs. The LieutenantGovernor noted that the present batch includes 209 women constables, a proud reflection ofLadakh Police’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity.
Congratulating the newly recruited constables and their families, the Lt. Governor reminded themthat their uniform represents trust, duty, and sacrifice. He urged them to uphold integrity,professionalism, and compassion in service to the people of Ladakh. He also paid homage to thebrave officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty and reaffirmed the administration’scommitment to the continued growth and self-reliance of the Ladakh Police.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Ladakh,expressed pride in the infrastructural growth and modernization achieved by Ladakh Police. Hehighlighted that police establishments across the region have been upgraded into winter-friendlystations and offices, enabling personnel to serve effectively throughout the year.
Reflecting on the development of the Police Training Centre at Stongsar, DGP UT Ladakhemphasized the teamwork and vision shared among the Chief Secretary, the Home Department,and the Police Headquarters that turned the idea into a reality. He noted that hosting the firstPassing Out Parade at the Police Training Centre added special significance to the event.
He underscored the importance of community participation, encouraging families and civilsociety members to share in the pride of witnessing this milestone. Dr. Jamwal also announcedthe expansion plans for the Police Training Centre, including a proposal for acquiring ofadditional land to develop advanced sports and training facilities.
Recognizing Ladakh’s unique geography and culture, he highlighted plans to integrate local andtraditional sports, such as ice skating, into the training curriculum to promote both fitness andcultural engagement among recruits.
Dr. Jamwal concluded by reiterating the Ladakh Police’s commitment to expanding its presencein remote and border regions, creating greater employment opportunities for the youth of Ladakhand enhancing the overall safety and service network of the Union Territory.
The occasion concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where awards were presented to theconstables based on their exceptional performance during their nine months basic trainingcourse at CTC Lethpora. Sonam Yougchan Belt no 601/WB of Chumathang, Leh got the best Allrounder prize, Jigmet Palkit, Belt no. 710/IR-25, Sharons, Leh was awarded with Outdoor Best,Sonam Yongchen Belt no. 601/WB also got Indoor Best award, Mohd Sharif Belt no 818/L,Akchamal, Kargil was awarded with Best Marks Man.
