World Statistics Day 2025 celebrated at SKUAST-K

SRINAGAR: The Division of Agricultural Statistics, Faculty of Horticulture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), organized a special event to commemorate the 4th World Statistics Day 2025, observed globally under the theme “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”
The event was graced by Prof. Muhammad Altaf Bhat, Director Education, SKUAST-Kashmir, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Altaf Bhat emphasized the growing importance of statistics in evidence-based decision-making, research, and agricultural innovation. He highlighted that modern agricultural sciences increasingly rely on robust statistical methodologies to interpret complex data, generate reliable insights, and design sustainable development strategies.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Imran Khan, Head, Division of Agricultural Statistics, who extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and guests. Prof. Khan underscored the global relevance of statistics in advancing scientific knowledge and promoting data-driven agricultural development.
Distinguished speakers including Prof. Shakeel A. Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Mr. G. A. Qureshi, former Director General, Directorate of Economics & Statistics; Prof. Khursheed A. Mir, Controller of Examinations, Cluster University Srinagar; and Mr. Syed Adil Zahoor, Assistant Director, National Statistical Office (NSO), Government of India, shared insightful perspectives on the evolution and significance of statistics. They reflected on the discipline’s vital role in transforming governance, economics, and research across diverse sectors.
The event was attended by several eminent academicians and administrators, including Prof. Neelofar Banday, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture; Prof. Sajjad A. Gangoo, Dean Students Welfare; Prof. Tariq A. Raja; Prof. M. S. Pukhta; Prof. Bilal Ahmad; Prof. Nageena Nazir; Dr Bhagyshree, Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad (Assistant Professor, Biostatistics, SKIMS); Dr. M. Iqbal Jeelani; and Dr. Fahim Jeelani, along with Heads of various Divisions of the University. Their presence added immense value to the occasion, reflecting the University’s strong commitment to promoting statistical literacy and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Tariq A. Raja, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, guests, and organizing team for their active participation and contributions in making the celebration a resounding success.
The celebration served as a vibrant platform to acknowledge the indispensable role of statistics in shaping informed policies, supporting scientific research, and fostering sustainable agricultural and societal development.
