BARAMULLA: The All India Radio Srinagar Station and Government Degree College Baramulla (Autonomous) Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for hosting on Akashvani Srinagar of the programmes produced by the media students.
The MoU was signed by the College’s Principal, Prof Muhammad Shafi Lone, and the Station’s Senior Programme Executive, Dr Satish Vimal, in presence of Programme Officer, Waseem Farooq Wani, senior faculty Prof Tariq Chalkoo, and Head of the college’s Media Studies Department, Dr Danish Nabi Gadda.
“This is an important step for us. Now, the radio programmes produced by our media students will be aired on Akashvani Srinagar,” Prof Lone said.“It is a great platform created for our students. I am sure they will make good use of it.”
Both Vimal and Wani visited the department and were impressed with the environment made available to the students.
“This is one of the best media department’s I have seen. The infrastructure, the kind of work being done by the students is speaking for itself,” Vimal said, congratulating the department’s staff, which was also present at the signing event.
The department is one of the oldest undergraduate media-education centres in north India. It offers multiples courses in mass communication and multimedia production, with a key focus on providing the students with a hands-on work experience.
The department has earned its reputation through the media products and professionals produced over the years. The department’s films have been screened at several festivals and competitions within and outside Kashmir.
“This MoU is a very big step for us. This starts the beginning of a long collaboration between Akashvani Srinagar and our department,” Dr Gadda said.
“Our students now have a platform as big as Akashvani Srinagar available to them for projecting their talent. We are positive this will help them immensely.”
